With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Donald Leroy Gutsch, who left this world on August 18, 2025, surrounded by his two loving daughters.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, Don lived his life in service—not just to his country, but to everyone lucky enough to know him. Whether you needed a hand, a laugh, or a cold beer, he was the first to show up and the last to leave. He had an unshakable work ethic; the kind that didn’t come with a retirement plan, because he never quite figured out how to stop working. He loved what he did, but more than anything, he loved being out on the water.
Fishing was where he felt most at peace, even if the fish didn’t always cooperate. And even when he came back empty-handed, he still had a smile on his face and his trademark line: “Well, at least we caught a buzz.” It didn’t matter if the cooler was full or not. Any day on the water was a good one in his book, especially with a cold beer and good company.
His stories, stubborn streak, and easy charm made him unforgettable. He had a way of making friends wherever he went; always ready with a grin, a joke, or a helping hand. Don was the kind of man who would go above and beyond to help you (even if you told him you didn’t need it), crack open a beer before you even knew you wanted one, and make you feel like family the moment you met him. He lived simply, loved deeply, and never let a day go by without checking in on those he cared about.
He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unwavering loyalty. He is survived by his daughters, Kelly (Shawn) and Courtney; his grandchildren, Taylor, Sierra, and Macy; his sister, Debbie; and his brother, Ronald, who will miss him more than words can say, and carry his stories, stubbornness, and strength with them forever.
Don is preceded in death by his loving wife, Debra Gutsch; his son, Donald (Thumper) Leroy Gutsch Jr.; and his parents, Lawrence and Georgia Gutsch.
In his honor, we ask that you crack a cold one, share a laugh and a good story, and remember that sometimes the best catch of the day is simply time spent with the ones you love.
Fish on, Don. May you always have a full cooler, smooth waters, and endless days to bait and cast a line.
