Doris Jean (Hoover) Allen, age 95, of Evansville, IN, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Heart to Heart Hospice House.
Doris was born July 24, 1929, in Mt. Vernon, IN, to Otis Steve Hoover and Ruby Esther (Bradley) Hoover. She graduated from Reitz High School and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Evansville. Having a passion for education, she taught at Harrison High School where she served as the Social Studies Department Chair. Doris retired in 1987. She enjoyed playing golf and boating, and she was a member of the Ski Club. She and Henry cherished their time spent with their nieces and nephews and enjoyed teaching them to water ski. She also loved tending her garden and raising beautiful roses.
Doris is survived by her sister, Sue Menke (Ron); nieces and nephews, Steve Heseman (Jill), Paula Baumgart (John), Lee Ann Williams (Joe), Kim Menke (Kristy), Tony Menke (Rebecca), Jeff McCutchan, Debbie Backus (Bob), Dana McCutchan (Tammy), Donna McCutchan Gassier, Kirk McCutchan (Diana), and Hiram Edward Oslin (Ann); and many great nieces and nephews.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Esther Hoover; loving husband of 72 years, Henry C. Allen, who passed away in 2019; and sisters, Ruby Heseman and Joyce McCutchan.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Blue Grass Church, Chapel Campus, 14200 Petersburg Road, Evansville, IN, with Pastor Doug Heiman officiating. Burial will be in Bue Grass Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Blue Grass Church, Chapel Campus.
