Doris "Dolly" Ethridge Obituary

Doris M. “Dolly” (Brown) Ethridge, age 93, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Heart to Heart Hospice House.

Dolly was born January 3, 1933, in Waverly, Tennessee, to Joe and Alta Mae (Scurlock) Brown. She graduated from Central High School in 1950. She has been a member of Washington Avenue Church of Christ since 1985. Dolly loved traveling, with the Panama Canal being her farthest trip. One of her most favorite placed to visit, however, was the Smokey Mountains. Dolly served the community through volunteering with the Salvation Army around Christmas time. She talked with the families to help them figure out what they needed. Dolly also loved antiquing and going to yard sales.

Dolly is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Holtzclaw; her sons, William (Pamela) Ethridge Jr. and Gregory (Cheryl) Ethridge; her dear friend who became a daughter, Linda Young; her grandchildren, Jason (Valerie) Arvin and Joe (Sharla) Ethridge; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and her sisters, Betty Silverstrand and Ethel Ridings.

Dolly is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 72 years, William Ethridge Sr.; her son-in-law, Dewey Holtzclaw; her sisters, Lois Ethridge and Sue Simpson; her brothers, Jim Brown, Calvin Brown, Joe Brown, and Bill Brown.

Dolly’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at both Cedarhurst of Newburgh and Heart to Heart Hospice for the amazing care of their mama.
