Dorothy G (Fulk) Gumble, age 96, of Noble, Illinois, passed away at Parkview Care Center in Evansville, IN on Friday May 29, 2026.
Dorothy was born January 14, 1930 in Noble, Illinois to Vern and Rema (Elkins) Fulk. She married Herman Gumble on March 29, 1952. They spent the majority of their married life in the Noble area. Together they served many area churches in ministry, with the final church being the Church of the Brethren in Parkersburg, Illinois. They also participated in disaster relief trips with Samaritan's Purse.
Dorothy was a homemaker, and the years she did work outside the home were as a caregiver to the elderly, so they could remain in their homes. Dorothy loved to play Scrabble, card games with the kids, and crochet, and her family and friends received many of her special crocheted hangers or afghans. She loved to read her collection of Grace Livingston Hill books, everything written by Dr. David Jeremiah and the Bible. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who all adored her and called her Gramma Great. She loved playing games with them, and they said she taught them "how to cheat." Her great grandchildren enjoyed rides on her walker. She will be deeply missed by her family.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Debbie Phillips (Paul), Angie Pace (Glenn) and Mary Weesner (Rick); Grandchildren, Elissa Mitchell (Ryan), Alison Vieck (Jake), Lindsey Maynard (Steven), Nathan Hazel (Erica), Jake Weesner (Heather), Leah Jacobs (Hunter), Caleb Weesner (Lilly), Isaac Weesner (Jackie), Hannah Weesner (fiancé Noah Zollers), and Bonus Grandchildren Christopher Pace (Christina), Josh Pace (Brittney) and Janlyn Palmer (Bill), and Great Grandchildren, Camden, Austin, Zachary, Ella, Steven, Amelia, Keaton, Jett, Gemma, Callen, Selah, Ava, Duncan and Maddox Mae. Sisters, Jeanne Houchin, Violet Buckels, Marilyn Buckels and Carolyn Fleshner.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman Gumble, daughter, Pamela Rose Gumble, her parents and siblings, William Fulk Sr., Charles Fulk, Vernon Fulk and Virginia Ashworth, as well as sisters and brothers-in law.
Her family is grateful for the care she received in the past several years and express their appreciation to Heart to Heart Hospice, Parkview Care Center in Evansville, Indiana, and employees of the former Fox Ridge Manor in Vincennes, Indiana for their loving and excellent care. Dorothy was grateful for the loving care received in the home of her grandson, Nathan, and his wife Erica, for several years.
