Dorothy Rose (Martin) Riddle was born in 1937 in Dawson Springs, KY to Carlton and Rachel Crider Martin and moved to Evansville while she was in high school. She had a brother Carl, and two sisters, Daisy and Betty, all of whom predeceased her. She graduated from Evansville Central High School and began work as a key punch operator at Whirlpool. She met Russell Riddle, the love of her life, and married him on New Year’s Eve in 1960. They lived in and near Evansville for most of their married lives except for about ten years in Carlsbad, NM.
In 1969 they were blessed by the arrival of their son Tom, who was the light of their lives. Dottie loved being a homemaker and caring for her son and husband. She loved playing tennis and bowling and several times bowled a perfect game. She also taught elementary Sunday School at Washington Baptist Church. She was a devout Christian who knew and loved God and tried to live her life as God would have wanted. In 2004 they celebrated the arrival of their grandson, Logan Riddle, of Evansville.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Russell, brother-in law Tom Riddle (Sally), nieces Kim Shahry, Cathy Ankbenbauer, and Dorothy Welte, all of Texas, and niece Beverly Jackson of Montana. She also had nieces Janet Remling and Jackie Hawthorne in Indiana and Jenny Doherty of Pennsylvania as well as nephews James Riddle of Tennessee, Jerry Riddle of Arizona, and Scott Riddle of Pennsylvania.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, son Tom, and her siblings and her beloved mother-in-law, Madge Riddle Richeson.
