Elmer Miller, age 95, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 10:25 p.m. on Saturday December 4, 2021, at Oasis Dementia Care in Evansville, IN.
Elmer was born December 8, 1925 in Central City, Kentucky to Hubert and Nell (McLevain) Miller.
He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. Elmer was a construction foreman and served with the 142nd Engineers Combat Battalion for 20 months, 7 months of which was spent as a construction foreman at Salzburg, Austria. He also supervised and assisted crews of fifteen men in various laboring jobs during construction of roads and small buildings.
Elmer was a baker for Colonial Bakery and retired after 33 years. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elmer is survived by his son: David H. Miller (Martha); daughter in law, Treva Miller; Sisters, Ola Wandtke and Joyce Tyler (Fred); grandchildren, Andrew Miller, Julia Russell and Christopher Miller; great grandchildren, Alexandria Colley, Sidney Russell, Brody Miller, David J. Miller and Emily Kasey.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis (Hyatt) Miller in 1998; Son, Tom W. Miller; and brothers, Leodes Miller and James Miller.
Celebration of Life will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, December 11, 2021, until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with pastor Mark Short officiating. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery, Henderson, Ky.
Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2021 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
