Erlus L. (Locker) Shatara

Erlus L. Shatara, age 93, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN.

Erlus was born on February 9, 1929 in Evansville, Indiana to George T. Locker and Norma Foertsch Locker.  She graduated from Bosse High School and Indiana University.  Erlus retired from Evansville Day School in 1989 after serving there as an elementary teacher for 26 years.  She also started the St. Mark’s Lutheran Preschool.  Erlus was the oldest living lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a long-standing member and past President of the Indiana Chapter BJ of P.E.O.  Erlus was a Golden Girl of P.E.O. having served since 1955.  She was a member of Alpha Chi sorority, a Docent at the Evansville Museum, and a Culture Club member.  Erlus enjoyed playing Mah Jong and was in a Club for many years. 

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Horner Bolatto and her husband Joe; and grandchildren, Michael Bolatto and his wife Liz Braun; and Claire Bolatto McNabb and her husband Jonathan; and great grandchildren Isla and Hannah McNabb.

Erlus is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband William R. Horner; her second husband Frederick E. Shatara; and daughter Julie L. Horner.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00p.m., Monday, July 11, 2022, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Don Gray officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. 

Friends may visit from 11:00-12:00p.m. until service time, Monday, July 11, 2022 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the Linda E. White Hospice House, and the Evansville Museum.
