Frank Burfield Obituary

Frank Burfield, age 86, of Evansville, IN, passed away from this world on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

If you looked in the dictionary for the definitions of unique, irrepressible, or unforgettable, you would see his picture.

A native New Yorker, Frank was born on October 19, 1937. He was a terrific athlete and received a football scholarship to Boston College. After college, he joined the Navy and served as a code breaker on submarines. Frank came home, married his sweetheart, Carolyn (Matese), had a daughter, and became a sheet metal worker. He always loved going to work every day – and he meant it! Frank was the hardest-working man in the union! He and Carolyn were married for 28 years until her untimely death. During those years they traveled all over the world. Frank also bred and showed Siamese cats and Arabian horses. He loved animals and had so much fun with them.

Frank met his second wife, Cheryl (Barrow) while working on a construction project in Evansville. They met at a twist contest – and they won! He and Cheryl twisted their way to the altar in 1987, and he became the “forever father” to her 5 boys. Frank hated the term “stepson” and loved them like his own.

Anyone who met Frank remembered him. He had the biggest heart and sometimes the biggest mouth! Frank’s wife jokingly called him a “flaming liberal,” as he wanted to help everyone. On his death bed, he cried over the people suffering in Israel and Gaza.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cheryl; 4 stepsons, Todd Suter (Melissa), Shane Corbin, Kevin Corbin (Julie), Matthew Davis (Rebecca); a daughter, Diana; sister, Elaine Jordan of New York; seven grandchildren; one niece; and three great-nephews.

Preceding him in death are his first wife, Carolyn; and stepson, Bryce Corbin.

It was Frank’s wish to have his ashes scattered off the coast of Florida, where he spent many days fishing in the surf.

We will miss Frank’s humor, strength, appetite (which was incredible!), and his love for his fellow man. His kitties will miss him too.

No services are planned at this time.
