Frederick "Freddie" Pipes Obituary

Frederick “Freddie” Dean Pipes, age 69, of Newburgh, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, surrounded by family.

Freddie was born March 26, 1956, in Hartford, KY, to James Frederick “Jimmy” and Allene Gray (Miller) Pipes. He was a 1974 graduate of Ohio County High School in Beaver Dam, KY. Shortly after graduation, he married Melinda Long on October 27, 1978. Freddie was a natural born leader, and he was active in the Christian Church where he served as an Elder, Deacon, Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, and Youth Leader. They were also past members of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and he more recently attended Living Word Christian Church.

In keeping with Freddie’s generous spirit, he gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. He was a provider and hard working business man who had many professions throughout his lifetime. He worked in the coal mines, a jewelry store, a bed and breakfast, which he owned and operated with Melinda in Hartford, KY, and various restaurants, included owning a Chick-fil-A franchise for 21 years. In the last two years, Freddie discovered the perfect part-time job, driving a bus for Warrick County School Corporation. He was a people person who never met a stranger and knew someone no matter where he went. He enjoyed buying and selling cars, watching NASCAR on Sundays, boating, and enjoyed the company of good friends. Melinda was the cook of the house, and Freddie was the perfect Sous Chef. Homemade donuts were his weekend breakfast specialty.

Freddie is survived by his daughters, Melea (Todd Lohse) Segovia and Elise Pipes; son, Tyler (Jessica) Pipes; son-in-law, Mario Segovia; grandchildren, Addison, Miguel, and Alayna; sister, Sharon James; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Jeff) Forrest and Dana  (Bruce) Evans; niece, Leesa (Shane) Aud; nephews, Matthew (Shea) Taylor, Brian (Amy) Forrest; and many other dear family members.

Freddie is preceded in death by his wife, Melinda L. Pipes, who passed away just five short months ago; parents, Jimmy and Allene Pipes; brother-in-law, Allan James; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
