Genevieve (Gary) Brandenburg

Genevieve (Gary) Brandenburg, age 97, of Evansville, IN, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Hamilton Pointe Health & Rehabilitation Center in Newburgh after having a really good day visiting with her son, daughter and granddaughter.

Genevieve was born September 25, 1928, to the late Hillard and Essie (Embry) Gary in Owensboro, Kentucky, where she was raised. She attended Walnut Street Baptist Church in Owensboro Senior High School where she met the love of her life, Donald Brandenburg Sr. They married in 1946 and had an incredible 72 years together before he passed in December 2017.

Blessed with many talents, Genevieve “Genny” was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was an accomplished seamstress, a gifted artist with an eye for beauty and a fabulous cook whose meals became the heart of many family gatherings. Additionally, she was an avid UK fan and usually had some advice for the coach.

Genevieve will be remembered for her great sense of humor, quick wit and her ability to make every situation more light-hearted. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by children whether they were part of the family or part of the neighborhood.

Although our hearts are saddened by her passing, we find peace knowing she is now at rest. Her gentle presence and fun-loving spirit will remain with us always.

Genevieve is survived by her son, Donald (Donna) Brandenburg; daughter, Cindy (Dennis) Brinkmeyer of Evansville; 5 granddaughters, and a great grandson, (who she raised) Morgan (Cari) Schum; and numerous other grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July  18, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Father Ted Temple officiating. Burial will be private.

Friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
