George W. Neireiter, Jr., age 75, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by family.
George was born May 30, 1951, in Ft. Wayne, IN, to George W. Neireiter, Sr. and Hillis A. (Wearley) Neireiter. He graduated from Southside High School in Ft Wayne in 1969 and from Purdue University Ft. Wayne in 1973 with a Bachelor’s Degree. George continued his education at Indiana University where he earned a PhD in Bio Chemistry in 1979. In July 1979, he began his career as a chemist at Mead Johnson/Bristol-Myers which spanned over 30 years.
Outside of work, George enjoyed many hobbies including playing cards, especially Euchre, doing puzzles, bike riding, and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a lifelong fascination with space exploration and was an avid follower of NASA's missions. He enjoyed taking woodworking classes at the Marc Adams School. He was a member of the American Chemical Society and Evansville Astronomical Society. During his retirement, he volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and served on their core crew. George left the world a better place than he found it. Though he will be deeply missed, his love, guidance, and memories will remain in our hearts forever.
The family appreciates the compassion and loving care he received from Dr. Karim Anwar and Medical Assistant, Jen, over the past 2 years.
George is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Peggy (Rathert) Neireiter; daughter, Sara Trombley (J.C.); son, John Neireiter (Jessie); grandchildren, Luke, Emerson, Isaac, and Paige; sisters, Darlene Neireiter and Joann Umber (Kerry); and sister-in-law, Jeanne Neireiter.
George is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Alan Neireiter.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Phoenix Events Center attached to the Ohio Township Fire Department, 3433 Libbert Road, Newburgh, IN with a Sharing of Memories beginning at 2:00 p.m..
