Gerald Wayne Fulkerson

Gerald Wayne Fulkerson, age 76, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Linda E. White Hospice House, surrounded by his family.

Wayne was born October 27, 1947, in Evansville, IN, to Travis Fulkerson, Jr. and Leonora (Davis) Fulkerson. He graduated from Bosse High School and earned his Associate’s Degree in in General Studies from Ivy Tech Community College. Wayne retired as a Staff Sergeant from the United States Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, and he went on to serve in the Indiana National Guard for a total of 25 ½ years of service. He was a lifetime member of the VFW 2953 – Charles Denby Post.

Wayne was a member of FaithWay Baptist Church, where he recently accepted the Lord as his Personal Savior. He enjoyed playing pool at SWIRCA, having lunch with his friends there, playing golf at Thunderbolt Pass, and was a prolific reader. Gerald loved teaching JROTC at Muhlenberg North High School and Owensboro High School. He was the Patriarch of his family - they were his everything. Any event his children or grandchildren had, he was there, cheering them on. He absolutely loved taking his annual beach vacations with his family. A family man, through and through, Wayne will be missed by all.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Martha Dianne (Decker) Fulkerson; sons, David Michael Fulkerson of Evansville, IN, and Gerald Wayne Fulkerson, Jr., of Newburgh, IN; sisters, Travis Lee Everett (Herschel) of GA, Sue VanDunk of Richland, IN, and Teena Fulkerson of Newburgh, IN; brother, Roger Fulkerson (Jeanette) of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Shelby Fulkerson, Sydney Fulkerson, and Shaylin Fulkerson; and great grandchildren, Emersyn, Kingstyn, Irelyn, Arrow, Raelyn, and Banks.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Leonora Fulkerson; and sisters, Anna Gross and Ruth Lynch.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN, with Pastor Stephen Russ officiating and the Vanderburgh Retired Veterans will render Military Rites.

Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
