Gilbert "Fuzz" Rohner Obituary

Gilbert “Fuzz” Rohner, age 89, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 10:00 p.m. on March 8 2020, at Linda E. White Hospice House.

Fuzz, the third of twelve children, was born on October 26, 1930, in Evansville, IN, to Russell and Francis (Spotts) Rohner. He graduated from Central High School in 1948. Fuzz retired from the Evansville Police Department after 38 years, with 28 of those years as a Sergeant. He worked 43 years for Ellis Park as a Mutual Clerk and for Berry Plastic as Security for 10 years.

Fuzz was involved in many organizations: He was an active member of Retired Fire and Police and the FOP, the 1st Vice President of Retirees Police and Fire, the chairman of the hole sponsorship for the Retired Police and Fire Golf scramble for many years, a member of the Hadi Shine Temple and the Oriental Band for many years, a member of the Otters booster club, was a Golden Glove Champion two times, and coached Little League Baseball for many years,

Fuzz has never met a stranger where ever he went.  Most people only knew him by Fuzz!!

After retirement, he enjoyed spending time keeping busy weed eating at McCutchanville Park, watching the 6 grand children play baseball and soccer.  Sunday outings at Derek and Terri’s house for dinner and entertainment with grandkids.  He loved going to Ellis park horse races and high school football and basketball games.  Fuzz also enjoyed watching St Louis Cardinal, Indianapolis Colts and Golf.

Fuzz loved to be around people because he loved to talk!  There wasn’t a place that you could go without someone knowing him.   He was a very positive and up lifting person to be around.

He loved his years on the Police Force, that is why he is very passionate about the annual golf scramble for the Retire Police & Fireman Association.

Fuzz also loved horse racing.  He would go every day during the live meet with a frozen bottle of water and 3 or 4 colored pens in his bag.  He loved going to the Otters games with his brother David.

Fuzz also loved his grandchildren.  Brandon, Aaron, Whitney, Andrew and Krista held a special place in his heart.  His Great Grandchild, Griffin, was also very special to him.

Fuzz worked out at the gym up to 5 days a week.  He was working out up to one month before he died.  He would do 20-50 sit-ups in bed every morning up until two weeks ago, and he would let you know how many he did each day.

Fuzz enjoyed his morning meetings with his group of friends at the Burger King on First Avenue and meeting his retiree friends at Golden Corral every Wednesday and Friday.

We would like to send a special Thank You to Cara Wongngamnit for her special support during his health issues and to brothers, David and George and their families, for their support during his illnesses.

Fuzz is survived by his sons, Deon Rohner (Terri) and Derek Rohner (Terri); mother of his children, Johnney Gray Rohner; sisters, Wanda Hansert, Ruth Girven, Betty Lou Jarboe, Mary Ross, and Dorothy Davis; brothers, Paul Rohner (Marilyn), David Rohner (Janeece), Larry Rohner (Lucy), George Rohner (Susan); grandchildren, Brandon Griggs-Rohner, Aaron Rohner (Kara), Whitney Rohner, Andrew Rohner (Tia); great grandchildren, Griffin Rohner and soon-to-be-brother, Theo; companion of 22 years and Caregiver, Krista Porter, and her children, Amanda Porter and Josh Porter (Sandra) and son, Joshua; and granddaughter, Krista King.
