Gilna Brownfield

Gilna Brownfield, age 84, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 9:37 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Linda E. White Hospice House peacefully, surrounded by family.

Gilna was born March 1, 1939, in Daviess County, KY, to the late Roy and Eloise (Meredith) Smith. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1956. Gilna retired from EVSC as a custodian in 2004. She was a long-time member of Vann Avenue Baptist Church. Gilna enjoyed reading and flower gardening.

Gilna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Skip Hames; granddaughter, Meredith Hames; brother, Ray Smith (Linda); brother-in-law, Morris Epley; nieces and nephews, Gilna Gearhart (John), Brent Epley, Leah Connor (Bob), Kevin Smith, Stacey Lake (Cary), and Wayne Smith; 10 great nieces and nephews; and long-time friend, Betsy Ackerman.

Gilna is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Brownfield in 1972; sister, Veda Epley; and brother, Gary Smith.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Dr. Larry Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
