Gladys M. Widick (Bartrum) Simmons, age 73, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at her home.
Gladys was born June 18, 1951, in Detroit, MI, to William R. Widick and Mary Margaret (Bayer) Widick, and she was a graduate of Central High School. She was a faithful member for over 20 years of Heritage Baptist Church in Evansville, IN, where she was active in the Women of Joy Group and loved making prayer shawls for the church. When she could no longer attend in-person, Gladys enjoyed staying active with the church by receiving the weekly bulletin in the mail and watching services online. She was a co-owner and operator of Simmons Seat Covers, along with her husband, Donald, for 21 years. Gladys enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Candace “Candy” Silvernale (Ryan) of Evansville, IN; step-daughter, Blonnie Stewart of Evansville, IN; step-son Larry Simmons (Heather) of Cincinnati, OH; sister, Sally Freihaut of Evansville, IN; brothers, William “Bill” Widick (Susan) of Evansville, IN, Charles “Randy” Widick of Evansville, IN, Mike Widick of Evansville, IN, and Tom Morse (Ann) of Jonesboro, AR; grandchildren, Gabrielle Paulson, Colton Paulson, Molli Stewart, Lucas Simmons, and Jay Simmons; and 2 great grandchildren.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Widick; husband of 23 years, Donald U. Simmons, who passed away in 2000; step-son, Donald “Donny” G. Simmons; sister, Kathryn “Kitty” Bartrum; and brother, Paul Widick.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Alan Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
