Gladys “Aileen” (Lewis) Hupp, 100, of Evansville, IN, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior, on Monday, June 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Aileen was born on August 3, 1924 to R. Cecil and Mayme (Bryan) Lewis, and grew up on a farm in rural Illinois as the fourth of ten children. Her early life, rich with the values of hard work and strong family ties, shaped her deep compassion, quiet strength, and enduring generosity.
She married the love of her life, William “Bill” Hupp, on June 3, 1944 and together they shared 79 years of marriage and raised a beautiful family devoted to the Lord. Her gentle wisdom, unwavering faith, and boundless love were a guiding light to all who knew her.
Aileen proudly worked in the war factory during World War II, while Bill served in the Navy.
A remarkably talented seamstress, Aileen created beautiful, custom garments for family and friends throughout her life. From prom and wedding dresses to suits, costumes, and everyday clothing — there was no project beyond her skill. Whether it was a last-minute skirt needed for school or a perfectly fitted formal gown, she met every request with grace, care, and craftsmanship. Her sewing machine was rarely quiet!
Aileen also had a ministry of encouragement through her personal card ministry. She sent hundreds of thoughtful, handwritten cards filled with heartfelt sentiments, offering comfort, celebration, or simply a reminder that someone was thought of and loved. Her words often arrived just when they were needed most.
She and Bill shared a lifelong love of sports — especially for their beloved Chicago Cubs. Whether cheering on the Cubs or attending a local ball game, their enthusiasm was contagious. They could be found just about any day attending the sporting events and school functions of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Aileen and Bill loved to be on the go, and they were their family’s biggest fans — always present, always proud.
She and Bill were faithful members of First Southern Baptist Church and an active part of the Keenagers group, enjoying years of fellowship and travel together. Aileen was previously a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church.
Aileen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill; her parents; grandson, Adam Hupp; granddaughter, Abbey Coulter, and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children, Darlene Kozyra, William Hupp (Gina), Nancy Kincaide (Jerry), Janice Korba (Al), Deborah Barton (Rex), Mary Mayes (Rick), and Michelle Brasher (Jeff); sister, Judy Marshall; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
