Dean was born September 30, 1931, in Raleigh, IL, to Cecil and Sibyl (Irvin) Abney. He grew up very close to his twin brother, Gene. Dean graduated from El Dorado High School in El Dorado, IL, and was a Veteran in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. A few years later, they welcomed their daughter, Gina Ki.

Dean began working at Whirlpool Corp. and retired in 1987 after 28 years of service.

Dean was a member of Living Word Christian Church and a former member of American Baptist East Church. He spent many of his later years as an ordained minister. He loved to teach the Bible whenever he had the chance. Dean also enjoyed reading and meeting friends for coffee at Washington Square Mall.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ruby F. (Todd) Abney; daughter, Gina Landis (Brian); twin brother, Gene Abney; grandchildren, Melody Landis and Bethany Samuel (Aamod); great grandchildren, Levi and Silas; and numerous but special nieces and nephews.
