Harold Dean Abney

Harold Dean Abney, age 90, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Allisonville Meadows in Fishers, IN.

Dean was born September 30, 1931, in Raleigh, IL, to Cecil and Sibyl (Irvin) Abney. He grew up very close to his twin brother, Gene. Dean graduated from El Dorado High School in El Dorado, IL, and was a Veteran in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the military, then moving to Evansville, IN, Dean began working at the State Hospital. There he met a spunky red head coworker named Ruby. Dean and Ruby married on July 14, 1955. A few years later, they welcomed their daughter, Gina Ki.

Dean began working at Whirlpool Corp. and retired in 1987 after 28 years of service.

Dean was a member of Living Word Christian Church and a former member of American Baptist East Church. He spent many of his later years as an ordained minister. He loved to teach the Bible whenever he had the chance. Dean also enjoyed reading and meeting friends for coffee at Washington Square Mall.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ruby F. (Todd) Abney; daughter, Gina Landis (Brian); twin brother, Gene Abney; grandchildren, Melody Landis and Bethany Samuel (Aamod); great grandchildren, Levi and Silas; and numerous but special nieces and nephews.

Dean is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Judy Abney.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Tommy Epperson officiating.
