Harriet Davis Obituary

Harriet I. (Couch) Davis, age 87, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 10:03 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Home.

Harriet was born May 29, 1932, in Wabash County, IL, to Percy Couch and Madora (Williams) Couch. She was raised in the Presbyterian faith. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1950 and graduated from Lockyear Business College. Before and after raising her children, Harriet worked as a medical transcriptionist for St. Mary’s Hospital, Deaconess Hospital, Mead Johnson, and The Rehabilitation Center.

Harriet enjoyed tending to perennial flowers transplanted from her family homestead, which was located near Friendsville, IL, as well as tracing her family history through genealogy. In particular, she was an active member of the Higgins-Mapes Family Historical Association. Harriet’s passion was her family, including caring for and supporting her grandchildren in their activities and endeavors.

Harriet is survived by her husband of 65 years, Henry T. Davis, Sr.; daughter, Andora Buedel (Dr. Steven Buedel); and son, Dr. Henry T. Davis, Jr. (Joyce); grandchildren, Jason Buedel, Dr. Sarah Buedel, Eric Buedel, Jordan Davis, Jade Davis, and Jette Davis.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents.

Private graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4, 2020, Chapel of Memories at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1400 E Virginia St, Evansville, IN, with Reverend George Purnell officiating. 

The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at the Good Samaritan Home and Heart to Heart Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice at 2532 Waterbridge Way, Evansville, IN 47710, or the Alzheimer’s Association at 701 N Weinbach Ave, Evansville, IN 47711.
