Helen Siegel Obituary

Helen Anne (Chivian) Siegel, age 90, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Community.

Helen Anne was born August 1, 1933, in Evansville, IN, to Louis and Adele Chivian. She met her husband, Milton Siegel, when she was 16, through numerous gatherings between the Siegel and Chivian families, and they were married when she was 19. They enjoyed a wonderful 34 years of marriage until Milt passed away in 1986. Helen Anne also cherished the years spent with Bob Levi, with 21 years of companionship and shared grandchildren.

Growing up in the top level of Chivian’s department store in Newburgh, Helen Anne worked in retail stores throughout her life. She was a retail clerk at Siegel’s and Mr. Fashion and enjoyed waiting on customers. She served as the bookkeeper for the business, with keen accounting skills.

Helen Anne was active in her Synagogue, Temple Adath Israel, serving as President of Sisterhood, ruling the catering kitchen for B’nai Mitzvahs and many life cycle events. Holidays were celebrated with large gatherings of family and friends, served with warmth and joy.

She also was an avid tennis, bridge, and Mah Jong player, enjoying a wide circle of friends. She was a supporter of the Evansville Philharmonic and volunteered for the organization. In 2019, Helen Anne moved to Primrose Retirement Community, where she made many new friends, renewed old friendships, and had an active social life.

Helen Anne is survived by her daughters, Lisa Siegel Slutsky (Rick) of Sarasota, FL, and Jan Luebbe, of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Rachel (Jeffrey) and Madeline (Noah); and dear cousins, Kay and Gary Weiss.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton Siegel, who passed away in 1986; and her companion, Bob Levi, who passed away in 2013.
