Henry Thomas Davis, Sr.

Henry Thomas Davis, Sr., age 96, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024, at River Pointe Health Campus.

Henry was born on December 19, 1927, to Wilbur A. Davis, Sr. and Mary Ann (Lloyd) Davis in Onton, KY. He grew up working on his family’s farm and played on the basketball team at Onton High School. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, which became part of the Air Force during his service, and was stationed in Anchorage, AK, from 1946-1949, working as an IBM Accounting Machine Operator during World War II. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and traveled all over the United States as part of his duties. After the war, Henry moved to Evansville, IN, and earned his Accounting Certification from Lockyear Business College. He worked as a Computer Programmer for The Servel Company for 8 years, then as a Systems Specialist at Faultless Caster for 29 years. After retiring in 1987, he served as a Systems Consultant for the Evansville Association for the Blind and Schmitt Refrigeration & Air Conditioning for 5 more years. He was a proud veteran and traveled on the 6th Honor Flight of Southern Indiana to Washington, DC, in 2017.

Henry was of the Methodist faith. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a Boy Scout Leader, and a member of the Evansville YMCA since 1983. His hobbies included working outside, vegetable gardening, repairing and wiring electronics, photography, and woodworking. Henry was a family man who loved chauffeuring his grandchildren to their afterschool functions and attending their sports events and fine arts performances.

Henry is survived by his daughter, Andora Buedel (Dr. Steven Buedel); daughter-in-law, Joyce Davis; and grandchildren, Jason Buedel, Dr. Sarah Buedel (Ross Yates), Eric Buedel, Jordan Davis, Jade Davis, and Jette Davis.

Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Mary Ann Davis; beloved wife of 65 years, Harriet Irene (Couch) Davis, who passed away in 2020; son, Dr. Henry T. Davis; and brother, Wilbur A. Davis, Jr.

Private Services will be held at Oak Hill Mausoleum, Evansville, IN.
