Hilda N. “Becky” (Norris) Atkinson, age 91, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital – Evansville.
A proud Washingtonian, Becky was born August 31, 1929, in Washington, DC, to Thomas and Georgetta (Hoffman) Norris. She was the youngest of twelve children. Becky spoke fondly of growing up in Washington DC. She often recounted stories of riding trolley cars, playing kick the can with her siblings behind the Capitol Building, and going to the movies. She graduated from Huntingdon (PA) High School in 1948. Her married life took her all over the country, including Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Memphis, San Diego, Tampa, and Atlanta, before settling in Evansville. She was a member of Methodist Temple UMC since 2005. While she didn’t like snakes and gladiolas, she sure loved her family, the beach, and especially visiting with her five beloved grandsons. Passionate about politics, Becky worked as a Precinct Poll Manager in the Atlanta area for over 15 years. Becky was an avid Bridge player and bowler, active in several leagues. Becky was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, co-founder of SAM’s (Senior Adult Ministries), XYZ (Extra Years of Zest), and Miriam Circle.
Becky is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Jim Atkinson; daughter, Stacey Hebebrand; son, Jamie Atkinson, and grandchildren, Nick Hebebrand, Zach Hebebrand, Jake Hebebrand, Brodie Atkinson, and Ewan Atkinson.
Becky is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Georgetta Norris; 9 sisters; and 2 brothers.
