Hugh David Reeder, age 77, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2024, at Premier Healthcare of New Harmony, surrounded by family.
David was born February 20, 1947, in Evansville, IN, to Aaron Reeder and Margaret (McCann) Reeder. He graduated from Harrison High School in 1965 and was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In his younger years, David played for Funky’s Softball League, and he loved driving his motorcycle and beloved Corvette. He was a Veteran in the United States Navy, serving for four years. He was wounded on the flight deck while traveling to Vietnam and had to be medically discharged.
David married Amy Eubank in 1984. They loved to travel all over the world, were members of a Wine Club, and they enjoyed hosting parties at their home. David painted cars for Maaco Auto Body Shop & Painting for several years before purchasing The Great Frame Up from his boss’ wife in 1986. He worked with a great group of people; they weren’t just employees - they were like family. He owned and operated it until he retired in 2007, just a few years after Amy passed away.
David met Myra Alvis in 2005 on a blind date, and they were later married in 2009 in their living room in a small, family ceremony. They also enjoyed traveling and visited Europe, St. Kitts, and the Cayman Islands.
David loved golfing and was a member of Oak Meadow Country Club. He enjoyed working on cars, and was very proud to have built a Roadster. David was a huge jokester who loved to exaggerate his stories.
David is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Myra (Alvis) Reeder; stepdaughters, Taylor Engels (K.J.) and Lindsay Barnett (Damon); grandchildren, Nash Barnett, Gray Barnett, and Lakelyn Engles; niece, Jill Hunter Armstrong (Curtis); nephew, Jason Hunter; mother-in-law, Ruth Raber (Harold); sisters-in-law, Kris Dombrowski (Wally), Betsy Eubank, Mary Ann Rueger (Wayne) and Belinda Beatty (Charlie); brothers-in-law, Wayne Eubank, Bob Alvis (Susan), and Chris Alvis; former mother-in-law, Joy Eubank; and beloved pets, Rickie, Monkey, and Maddie.
David is preceded in death by his parents; late wife of 20 years, Amy Chime (Eubank) Reeder, who passed away in 2003; stepson, Timothy James “TJ” Schafer, Jr., who passed away in 2023; sister, Marilyn Destache; nephew, Joel Hunter; grandparents; former father-in-law, Dick Eubank; brothers-in-law, Richard Alvis and Mike Alvis; and many beloved cats.
