James Claude “Chainsaw” Millard, age 88, of Evansville, IN, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021, at home, surrounded by his family.
Jim was a graduate of F. J. Reitz High School in 1951. He joined the United States Marine Corps upon leaving high school, and due to his leadership skills and outstanding record, he was Commissioned as an Officer while on his first tour of duty in Vietnam. Captain James C. Millard retired from the USMC after 20 years of service. He later retired from Alcoa. Jim was always working on his many hobbies which he loved to share with others. He was best known for his many hats with different pins he collected and received from friends. Jim loved to share many stories, often emphasizing life’s lessons. He will be missed greatly, and his influence continues to this day.
One of his greatest joys were his motorcycles and the trips he took with his Motorcycle Buddies. Many cups of coffee went into planning their rides.
Jim grew up in Zion Evangelical & Reform Church in Evansville before becoming a faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He will always be loved for his volunteer work and willingness to “get it done” attitude and his love of laughter and hugs.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sandra (Harris) Millard; daughter, Cheryl Kight (Kris); son, Brian Keith Millard; grandsons, Joshua Kight and Adam Kight; sister, Edna Clayton; brother, Gerald Millard; sister-in-law, Nancy Heidt; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his birth parents, Claude and Emma Millard; foster parents, Clifford and Martha (Fritsch) Heidt; sister, Marie Alford (Cliff); brothers, Walter Millard (Lorraine) and brother, Steve Heidt; sister-in-law; Patricia Millard; and brother-in-law, JD Clayton.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend George Purnell officiating. The family requests that masks be worn and social distancing be respected. A Live Stream will be available beginning twenty minutes prior to the service time.
