James “Jimmy” Edward Buehrens, age 62, of Newburgh, IN, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 12, 2026.
Jim was born January 20, 1964, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Robert and Joyce (Watts) Buehrens. He attended Racine Lutheran High School, where he met the love of his life, Marie Ziolkowski, whom he later married on July 23, 1983. The lovebirds moved to West Bend, Wisconsin, where they later had three beautiful children. In June 1996, Jim and his family moved to Newburgh, where they met some of their best friends, who also became family.
Jim and Marie were fortunate to retire years ahead of their time, allowing them to enjoy their hobbies of golfing, hiking, camping, fishing, boating, and traveling. If you saw him, you saw Marie. When they were home, Jim thoroughly enjoyed entertaining, showing off his cooking skills, and hosting an annual fish fry.
Jim was not the only name he was known by. He was also called Husband, Dad, Brother, Cousin, Uncle, Big Jim, Poppa, Sexy Grandpa, and Poppa Ice Cream. This was a testament to Jim’s loving character. As a longtime member of the American Legion Post #44, Jim had a personal desire to honor veterans by organizing golf scrambles and multiple fundraisers benefiting local organizations.
One thing that was undeniable, in addition to the love he had for his wife and children, was how much he loved his grandchildren. There was not one malt, boat ride, pool party, or cuddle he would deny them.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Amanda (Casey) Hollander, Ryan (Tracy) Buehrens, and Rebecca (Stephen) Bradfield; grandchildren, Kennedy and Brooklyn Hollander, Falon Buehrens, and Cayden, Elise, Norah, and Samira Bradfield; sisters, Trudy Kristopeit, Nancy Brichacek, Eileen (Wendell) Zirbel, Mary (Jimbo) Sandberg, and Linda Polcin; brothers, Henry Buehrens and Rick (Mary) Buehrens; sisters-in-law, Gail Geisler, JoEllen (Tony) Rodriguez, and Julie Seeger; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Cathy) Ziolkowski, Mark (Juanita) Ziolkowski, and John Ziolkowski; as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Joyce Buehrens; his father- and mother-in-law, Benny and Ruth Ziolkowski; and brothers-in-law, David Kristopeit, James Brichacek, and Patrick Polcin.
Services will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
