James Lee “Jim” Shelton, age 68, of Evansville, IN, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024, at home, with his family by his side.
Jim was born December 21, 1955, in Evansville, IN, to Wilburn H. and Helena (Tepool) Shelton. He graduated from Harrison High School in 1973 and was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Jim was a Homebuilder and Woodworking Craftsman. He enjoyed boating, going on cruises, and playing cards with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Peggy (Sandefur) Shelton; children, Todd Shelton (Kelly) and Jamie (Shelton) Byrn (Jason); grandchildren, Hailey Shelton, Reed Byrn, and Layne Byrn; siblings, Donna Elderbrook, Linda Fonner, Sandra Boeglin (Greg), and Michelle Garner (Jeff); and Bill Zimmerman, whom Jim thought of as a brother.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Helena Shelton; and brother, Wilburn Shelton, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 5301 Daylight Drive, Evansville, IN, with Father Chris Forler and Deacon Aaron Herrenbruck officiating. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Elberfeld, IN.
Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN, and from 9:00 a.m. until service time, Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
