James "Leon" Hiatt Obituary

James Leon Hiatt passed into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

Leon was born February 16, 1942, in Independence, KS, to the late Dale F. and Elizabeth (Osborne) Hiatt. He moved with his family to Evansville, IN, during WWII and graduated from Bosse High School in 1961. After graduation, he worked for 1.5 years at Goodwill, and then he went to work for Epi-Hab for 25 years, a company that provided employment for individuals with epilepsy. Leon could not drive and could be spotted all over town on his bicycle. His hobbies included bowling and miniature golf. He could be found all spring and summer evenings at the Putt-Putt on Morgan Avenue. He was especially skilled at mini golf with trophies to prove it. He also appeared in the Courier and Press with an article touting his golfing proficiency. Leon was a member of Terrace Parke General Baptist in Church, currently known as New Life Church.

He is survived by his sister, Fran Robinson of San Antonio, TX.

Special thanks to Leon’s lifelong friend, Gilbert “Butch” Pierce, Jr. for his assistance over the years.

Leon’s family and friends would like to thank the caregivers at Heritage Center of Evansville.
