Janet Carver Obituary

Janet Gayle (Morris) Carver, age 80, of Evansville, IN, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021, at St. Vincent Ascension Hospital with her family nearby.

Janet was born March 23, 1941, in Evansville, IN to Ray and Maryetta (Lusk) Morris. She attended Baker elementary and graduated from Central High School. Janet loved her family the most in life. She was an avid lover of Chihuahuas and had several throughout her life. She enjoyed sewing, visiting Jekyll Island, working puzzles, reading, crafting, watching football and getting involved in anything of interest to her children and grandchildren. She designed and sewed many theater costumes and the Homecoming Queen and King robes for the high schools in Mt. Vernon, where she raised her family and lived for many years. Her favorite sewing projects included making Becky's wedding gown, Krista's, Julia's, and Julietta's wedding veils, and a myriad of Halloween costumes and special occasion outfits for the kids and grandkids throughout the years.

Janet was a fierce, feisty and loyal wife, momma, and nana, who loved unconditionally and welcomed as many chosen family into her circle, as her related family. She was boldly honest and opinionated and taught her children to question, read, think, dream, and always believe that they could be and do anything they could imagine. Janet was highly intelligent, quick witted. She was unbeatable in nearly all board and card games. She loved to spar with her grandchildren, especially Julietta, who affectionately referred to her Nana as "Mean Old Lady" and she truthfully and lovingly referred to Julietta as "The Brat". All of the grandchildren regularly debated who was Nana’s favorite as she assured them she loved them and spoiled them all equally. She would fight anything or anyone to defend and protect her children and was always on their side. She was fiercely loved by her entire family and will be sorely missed.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Becky Carver, Suzy Carver, Krista Carver, and Julia Carver Kathary (Greg); grandchildren, Julietta Carver, Sean Bigley, and Connie Kathary; sister-in-law, Helen Morris; nieces, nephews, many bonus children and grandchildren, notably Mytch Springer and Andre Pochon; and her beloved chihuahua, Bella.

Janet is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Owen Carver; her parents, Ray and Maryetta Morris; her in-laws, Jake and Bertha Carver; her son-in-law Patrick Bigley; and her siblings Melvin Morris, Wanda Schlageter (Bill), Donald Morris (Sharon), Richard Morris (Carolyn), and Robert Morris (Ione).
