Jerry Dean Smith, age 82, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, Friday, March 13, 2026.
Jerry was born October 29, 1943, in Greenville, Kentucky, to Henry Dee Smith and Ethel E. (Watkins) Smith. He graduated from Hughes-Kirk High School in 1961.
He was a hardworking man who spent many years in the workforce. Throughout his career he worked for 19 years at Amax Ashire Coal Company and 12 years at Whirlpool. He also worked for Evansville Garage Doors before fully retiring in 2003.
He was a faithful member of Washington Avenue Church of Christ. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, taking photos, and traveling – especially to Hawaii.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Brenda Kay (Agee) Smith; son, Kevin Smith (Karen); daughter-in-law, Jo Lisa Smith; grandchildren, Katie Reuscher (Josh), Andrew Smith (Mandy), Devon Smith (Lauren), Amanda James (Robert), and James Smith; and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Preston, Adleigh, Duncan, Ryker, Zaleigh, Everleigh, Kenzie and Levi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Dale Smith; one brother; and three sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Alan Bush officiating. Following the service, entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville, IN.
Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, and again from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.
