Jimmie Lee Coakley, age 87, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Heart-to-Heart Hospice Center.
Jimmie was born January 17, 1936, in Lewistown, IL, to Lawrence and Golda (Clark) Coakley. He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1953 and received his Associate Degree from Western Illinois University in Liberal Arts. He was a veteran of the US Army, working with missile technology. He was a prison guard at the Illinois State Penitentiary in Joliet, IL. He honed his management skills at International Harvester and Caterpillar, before landing a job with F.W. Means in Peoria, IL. He moved up the ladder retiring as a Group Manager of Aramark Services in Columbus, OH. This was quite an accomplishment for a man born into the Great Depression. He was a prankster and world class story teller. He made a mean pancake. There wasn’t a Libs turtle, a cashew, or an ice cream he didn’t like. He taught his grandkids to drive, using his convertible Corvette, long before they were of legal age. The grandkids and great-grandkids were the light of his life. He never missed a game, frequently being a chauffeur for any one of them. He especially enjoyed his two new great-grandsons. He was an outstanding Dad, Grandfather, and Husband. He will be greatly missed by all.
Jimmie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Allyn Lee Coakley; daughters, Jennifer Schenk (Mike) and Janice Lane; brother, Dennis White; grandchildren, Ashton Wilmes (Adam), Christian Schenk (Jenni), Aaron Schenk, and Sarah Lane; and great-grandchildren, Abram Wilmes and Jim Schenk.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Gass; brothers, Harold Coakley and Jack White; and grandson, Alec Lane.
