John W. Schwentker, Sr. Obituary

John William Schwentker, Sr., age 95, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at The Evansville Protestant Home.

John was born May 24, 1930, in Evansville, IN, to James Milton Schwentker, Sr. and Adele (Andres) Schwentker. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1948. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1952 and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He was a long-time member of the Purdue Alumni Association. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy Officer Candidate School Program and served on the destroyer, the U.S.S. Pritchett, DD-561 from 1952 until 1955 as the Engineering Officer with the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade. In 1985, he retired as Vice President and Treasurer of the Evansville Electric & Manufacturing Company after 23 years.

In 1991, John married Jean Rudd from Morganfield, KY. They celebrated their 34th Anniversary this past May.

John is survived by his loving wife, Jean Schwentker; daughters, Ellen Gallmeister (Andy) and Amy Maroney (Ted); son, John Schwentker, Jr. (Dava); grandchildren, Carly Cox, William “Augie” Gallmeister, Daniel Maroney, Caroline Maroney, Savannah Maroney, and Lauren Maroney; and great grandson, Cooper Cox.

John is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, James Milton Schwentker, Jr. and Carolyn Daus.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN, with Pastor David Cullison officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with the American Legion Kapperman Post #44 rendering military rites.

Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
