Joy Elaine (Helfrich) Salo, age 54, of Evansville, IN, passed away March 10, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.
Joy was born February 19, 1970, in Evansville, IN, to Wilfred “Casper” Helfrich and Patricia (Miller) Steimentz. She attended Mater Dei High School and worked in the Deli for Buehler’s Buy-Low, now IGA for around 27 years. Joy later worked as a caregiver and housekeeper for a few years. She attended Catalyst Church where she loved working in the nursery. She adored Donny Osmond and his music, and was very excited to meet his brothers once. Joy enjoyed playing Bingo and was a people person. She knew everyone and just loved meeting new people, and she especially loved spending time with her grandkids.
Joy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Thomas Cecil Salo; daughter, Rose Anne Marie Salo (Dylan Sutherland); sons, Timothy Salo (Kelsey Berry) and Jason Salo (Jessica); grandchildren, Kyle Maurer, Jr., Hailey Agent, Noah Agent, Perseus Salo, and Cadence Salo; brothers, Mark Gillenwater (Vicky) and Rickie Gillenwater; companion, Emmett Jones; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents, Casper Helfrich and Patricia Steimentz; sisters, Vickie Dyson and Faye “Sissy” Douthitt; brother, Jerry “Junior” Gillenwater; nephew/brother, Troy Maggard; parents-in-law, Richard and Janet Salo; and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor David Whitmore officiating. Burial will be Private.
Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until service time, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
