Joyce Ann (Oxley) Guilford

Joyce Ann (Oxley) Guilford, age 79, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2020, at Hamilton Pointe in Newburgh.

Joyce was born January 14, 1941, in Folsomville, IN, to the late Charles and Juanita (Walker) Oxley. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1959 after which she attended the University of Evansville, graduating with an education degree in 1963. She went on to teach at Caze Elementary School until her marriage to Wallace Guilford.  Wally was an Air Force pilot, and Joyce traveled the world with him, keeping a home for him and their 3 children.  Joyce made numerous friends during her travels, many of whom she kept in touch with throughout her life.  Upon retirement, Joyce lived with her husband in Arizona and California where she again made use of her teaching degree as a special education teacher.  After Wally’s death, she returned to Evansville.

Joyce was an active member at Christian Fellowship Church, and enjoyed meeting with Bible study groups and other church activities. She enjoyed swimming, which she did on an almost daily basis, making many friends, and she was active on her class reunion committee for a number of years.

Joyce was very popular with her nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention by name but who loved her and will miss her in their daily lives.  Perhaps her greatest tribute will be the love and remembrance of those she leaves behind.

Joyce is survived by 2 children, Mike and Debbie Guilford; 3 grandchildren, Sean, Gregory and Gareth Guilford; 2 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Norma Dickens and Brenda Gordon; 2 brothers, Charles Oxley and David Oxley; and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Wally Guilford; and a son Kevin Guilford.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 15, 2020, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor David Niednagel officiating. A Live Stream will be available beginning twenty minutes prior to the service time. Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time, Sunday, November 15, 2020, at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
