Karen S. (Lasher) Griggs

Karen S. (Lasher) Griggs, age 63, of Evansville, IN, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital – Newburgh.

Karen was born December 12, 1959, in Evansville, IN, to Leo and Sharon (Graham) Lasher. She graduated from Harrison High School in 1978. Karen went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Evansville in 1982, and she earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education in 1986. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and was the Sweet Heart of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and was involved in the Student Council for Exceptional Children. Karen was a member of Crossroads Christian Church. She taught Special Education at Oak Hill, Howard Roosa, and Evans Middle School for 38 years before retiring in 2019 from the EVSC. She was very active with the Special Olympics in Evansville. Karen enjoyed going out to eat, watching old sitcoms, and sending cards to people for every occasion. She especially loved her family, friends, and neighbors. Karen had the sweetest servant’s heart and was very giving.

Karen is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Jim Griggs; son, Ryan Griggs; sister, Martha Flory (Eric); brother, David Lasher (Jane); niece, Erin Lasher; nephew, Nicholas Flory; and several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Sharon Lasher; son, Tyler J. Griggs, who passed away in 2021; and sister, Kathy Lasher.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Eric Rawdon officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2023, and from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Friday, June 2, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
