Kay (Freels) Lant, age 85, of Newburgh, IN, passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Primrose Retirement Community, Newburgh, IN.
Kay was born April 4, 1936, in Evansville, IN, to Clayton T. and Kathryn E. (Libbert) Freels. She graduated from Newburgh High School in 1954 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from Evansville College in Secondary Education with a focus on History and Speech. Kay was the president of Warrick County Humane Society for 9 years and was instrumental in securing the Warrick County Animal Shelter. Kay was a member of the Indiana Historical Society, PAAWS, Genealogical Society, and was a past president and board member of Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh. She was a Warrick County Historian and a Representative of Warrick County for the Smithsonian.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Sara Trockman (David); and grandchildren, Samuel Lant Trockman and Jack Lawrence Trockman.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Kathryn Freels; husband, Lawrence L. Lant, who passed away in 1979; and daughter, Julial Kay Lant, who passed away in 1993; and her companion, Jimmie Hungate, who passed earlier this year.
Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville and Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, IN.
