Lawrence "Larry" Steckler Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Steckler, age 80, of Evansville, Indiana, went to meet the Lord on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Heritage Center, with his wife, Kathy, by his side.

Larry was born on August 7, 1945, in Evansville, Indiana, to Oscar J. and Catherine (Snyder) Steckler. He graduated from Rex Mundi High School in 1963 and went on to earn his associate degree from Ivy Tech.

Larry was a proud, retired, 59-year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 136. He also honorably served his country in the United States Navy. Larry was a faithful member of St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt.

Larry never met a stranger and was well known for extending a short errand into a seemingly all-day affair by running into someone he knew. He enjoyed being out in his garage tinkering with whatever project he had going on at the time, and getting to spend time with his family.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Kathy A. (Phillips) Steckler; his children, Chad Steckler (Kim), Jason Steckler (Amy McBride), and Michelle Scherzinger (Chris). Also surviving him are his siblings, Rosalie Hirsch (Larry), Jane Russell (Barry), Steve Steckler (Mary) and Ronald Steckler (Tammy); grandchildren, Brooke Newhouse (Tyler), and Cassie Paulson (Ben); great grandchildren, Brantley and Macon Newhouse, and soon to be baby Newhouse; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Eugene Steckler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2026, at St James Catholic Church, 12300 County Rd 50, Haubstadt, IN 47639, with Fr. Andrew Thomas and Fr. Kenneth Betz officiating. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of service, Monday, March 30, 2026, at St James Catholic Church.

Memorial Contributions may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
