Linda Dianne (Schmitt) Ellenstein, age 77, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital on March 10, 2025.
Linda was born July 29, 1947, in Evansville, IN, to John Raymond “Jack” Schmitt and Joyce Ethlyn (Martin) Schmitt. She graduated from North High School in 1965. Linda earned her undergraduate degree from The University of Evansville, where she was an active member of the theater department, and her master of education degree from Indiana University. Linda’s career spanned raising five children with immeasurable patience, teaching at the University of Southern Indiana and Ivy Tech, and most recently working alongside her youngest daughter. She was a dedicated member of Adath B’Nai Israel Temple.
Linda embraced every day with a zest for life, come rain or come shine. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed traveling, and never met a stranger. She led a life without judgment or pretense, and she taught all who were blessed to know her how to love unconditionally and how to find the fun in every day. With bright eyes, a beautiful smile, and a sparkling spirit, she lit up any room she entered.
Linda’s family was her greatest joy. She raised her children to spread their wings in search of their own passions, and she relished every moment she spent with her grandchildren.
Linda is survived by her children, Aviva Ellenstein (Raphael Lemaire) of North Bethesda, Md, Anji Farwick (Chad) of Newburgh, In, Adam and Amelia Ellenstein, and Abbi Ellenstein Hughes (Barry Wagner) of Evansville, In, Aaron Ellenstein of Big Lake, Wa.; sisters, Judy Salma, Barb Schmitt, and Jeni Schmitt; grandchildren Will Farwick, Wyat Farwick, Claire Lemaire, and Scarlett Ellenstein.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Joyce Schmitt.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. CST, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 5725 N. First Avenue, Evansville, IN, with Rabbi Gary Mazo officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to: Adath B’Nai Israel Temple at 8440 Newburgh Rd, Evansville, IN 47715.
