Linda Williams Obituary

Linda Susan Williams (Mayes), age 86, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on February 18, 2026.

Linda was born December 26, 1939, in Oakland City, Indiana, to Ernest W. Mayes and Picola (Foley) Mayes. She spent her early childhood in Oakland City until her father returned from serving in World War II, after which the family moved to Montgomery, Indiana, where Linda attended her first six years of school. Following the unexpected loss of both of her parents, she returned to Oakland City to live with her mother’s family. Linda graduated from Oakland City High School in 1958.

For several years, Linda worked at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton as a medical transcriptionist and later as a cancer registrar. She later moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where she continued in the same field. In 1994, she was recruited by Medical Registry Services, Inc., to serve as a client service representative supporting hospital clients in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. During this time, she lived in Humble, Texas. A few years later, she returned to Indiana to be closer to her children.

Linda is survived by her loving husband, Gary Williams; sons, David White (Mary), Roger White, Brandon White, Greg Williams (Marina), and Doug Williams (Amy); her grandchildren, Ashton (Ryan), Samuel, Sophia, Mason, Easton, Grayson, and Peyton; and her great-grandchildren, Astrid, Aubry, Raiden, and Will. She is also survived by cousins whom she lovingly “claimed” as siblings: Jane Foley Haag, Rick Heacock, and Sandy Minnis; brother-in-law, Richard Williams (Mary); sisters-in-law, Sue Wilson and Marian Blackford (Bruce); and loving care taker, Katie Leciejewski.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Auston White and Cameron White; and cousins, Jimmie Minnis and Steven Heacock.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project, or Bethel United Church of Christ.

Linda will be laid to rest in Montgomery Cemetery near Oakland City, Indiana, in the family burial ground where her parents, maternal grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are buried. She will be buried very near her younger cousin, Steven Heacock, honoring a promise she made to him before his untimely passing at a young age.
