Lucinda Smith Obituary

Lucinda “Cindy” Kay Cannon Smith, 68, of Holly Springs, NC, passed away January 4, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with ovarian cancer. She is now at peace in heaven.

Cindy was born on July 2, 1956, in Washington, IN, to Joseph & Jacqueline Cannon. She was married to Scott Smith for 38 years.

As a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner, Cindy was a selfless caregiver, whether at home or with her patients. She tirelessly loved her family and gave endlessly through baking, sewing and nurturing. She poured her heart and soul into everything she did and was known as a relentless perfectionist. Cindy was a graduate of Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville IN. Post high-school education included the University of Southern Indiana and the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. Later in life, Cindy accomplished her lifelong dream of attaining her Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She practiced as a Nurse Practitioner for 10 years in neurology and gerontology, working tirelessly to improve her patient’s health and wellbeing.

Cindy loved life and her laugh was infectious and was well known to all who knew her. Her laugh could be heard in the kitchen when she was cooking homemade recipes for family and friends; or when she was enjoying watching her sons play hockey in middle school through college. She was an avid sports fan and loved running, soft ball, and golf. She especially loved watching and cheering on her beloved Carolina Tarheels basketball. Christmas was her favorite time of year for homemade gift giving. Her baking and candy making skills are legendary, especially her homemade toffee. Family and friends also looked forward to her cookies, hand sewn goods, and ready to cook soup jars. Cindy enjoyed traveling, especially beach trips with her family and girl’s trips. Her most recent treasured life event was the birth of her first grandchild, Cannon, born to parents Andrew “Andy” and Camille Smith. He was the light of her life, and Cindy cherished every moment with him; he brought immeasurable joy to her heart and soul.

Cindy will be missed but will always be in our hearts and on our minds. Our love for her will live on in our memories forever.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 38 years, Scott Smith; daughter, Christy Angel-Smith (Becky Angel-Smith); sons, Steven Smith and Andrew Smith (Camille); grandson, Cannon Smith; brothers, Peter Cannon (Jenny), Patrick Cannon (Lisa), Matthew Cannon, (Lisa), and Kathy Cannon (sister).

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Jacqueline (Cannon) Patten.
