Marcelle (Wright) Smith, age 89, of Newburgh, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at home.
Marcelle was born September 6, 1935, in Mansfield, TN, to Clifford Harrison Milburn Wright and Lera Inabelle (Sanders) Wright. She was a member of Metro Christian Center, formerly First Assembly of God for a number years, and she was a past member of Faith Temple. Marcelle enjoyed working in her flower garden, sewing, camping, and traveling with her family on vacations. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding on Jim’s Harley with him and traveling around with their biker friends. She loved her family and was blessed to be a homemaker. She was a fantastic cook who enjoyed hosting her family and cooking for the holidays. Her favorite was her holiday baking. Her most famous was her Texas Sheet Cake.
Marcelle is survived by her daughters, Karla Tenbarge (Robert) and Retha Hollman (Jae); brother, William “Bill” Wright (Jean); beloved grandchildren, Kyle Hollman and Kendra Waninger; many loving nieces and nephews; grand furbaby, Alfie; and great grand furbabies, Archie, Charlie, and Ruger.
Marcelle is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Lera Wright; loving husband of 28 years, James Fermon Smith, who passed away in 1983; and brother, Carl Harrison Wright (Beatrice).
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN, with Rev. Scott Hutcheson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until service time, Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
