Margaret (Douglas) Cox

Margaret (Douglas) Cox, age 87, of Princeton, IN, formerly of Hemingway, SC, passed away at 6:10 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.

Margaret was born August 15, 1933, in Hemingway, SC, to John and Essie Pearl (Perry) Douglas. She attended Hemingway School. In her early years, Margaret had an in-home daycare and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. She loved the children she babysat and still kept in contact with many of them. She loved watching game shows, especially Family Feud. Since her health prevented her from attending church in person, Margaret enjoyed watching televised Evangelists and listening to gospel music. She was known to all who loved her as “Granny.”

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann Douglas Jackson and Darlene Cox Williams; step-daughters, Frances Cox Howell and Faye Cox; sister, Lena Mae Avant; grandchildren, David, Joshua, Daynette, DeYonna, Douglas, and Danielle; great grandchildren, Chelsie, Dawson, Lyla, Lilly, Deyleigh, and Maddin; 10 step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great grandchildren.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, John and Pearl Douglas; husband, Doris White Cox, who passed away in 1975; sisters, Nell D. Barnes, Eunice Baxley, Frances Sawyer, and Elizabeth “Bette” Hanna; and step-daughter, Jean Wells.

Funeral Services will be handled by Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway, SC. Burial will be in Old Johnsonville United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hemingway, SC.

Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN.
