Margaret Y. Hwang, age 92, of Evansville, IN, passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Evansville Protestant Home.
Margaret was born August 20, 1932, in Yangon, Myanmar (formerly known as Rangoon, Burma), to Lew Hein Wong and Kyin Chee Hoo. During World War II, her family fled to southern China where she finished high school. She moved to the United States in 1951 to study at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, MI, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. She attended graduate school in St. Louis and then worked as a lab technician. She married Yu-Tang Hwang in 1961 and enjoyed being a homemaker once her children were born. Yu-Tang’s work moved them to Clinton, IA, in 1968 where her children grew up. Later, she moved to Shorewood, IL, when Yu-Tang was transferred for his work. She moved to Evansville in 2007 after her husband retired to be close to their eldest daughter. She enjoyed cooking for her family, singing in her church choir, doing various arts and crafts, bird watching with her husband, and traveling all over the world.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Deborah Hwang (Mike Ciholas) of Evansville, IN, Bess Hwang of Eagan, MN, and Ames Hwang (James Motz) of Mercer Island, WA; grandchildren, Rachel Motz and Andrew Motz; sister, Jon-Chai Wong; brother, Kwee Wong; and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years who passed away in 2014; and a brother, Jincheng Huang.
