Marian A. (Barton) Thomas, age 89, of Evansville, IN, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital – Newburgh.

Marian was born March 16, 1934, in Eldorado, IL, to Lloyd and Myrtle (White) Barton. She graduated from Eldorado High School in 1952. Marian was a faithful member of Blue Grass Church for many years, prior to Blue Grass, she was a faithful member of Oak Hill Baptist Church where she served as choir director and pianist. Marian’s professional realtor career spanned 40 + years, beginning her career with Margaret Bass Realtors, Fran Eiseman Realtors, Citizens Realty, FC Tucker Emge, and ERA First Advantage Realty with Janice Miller. Marian held the first ERC (Employee Relocation Counsel) designation in the Evansville region. Marian was an avid antique collector. She loved going to auctions and taking her children with her. Marian worked at the Riverside Antique Mall and Haubstadt Antique Mall. Later in life when her daughter, Beth, began doing antique shows, she assisted with wrapping merchandise for customers. Marian and Beth had a special relationship antiquing together and made many friends through their antique endeavors. Marian’s other loves were spending annual family vacations at Kiawah Island, her love of playing her piano every day, and her love of music.

Marian is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Hanneken; son, James “Jim” Thomas (Pam); grandchildren, Jillian Hanneken, Esq. and Dr. McKenzie Bocklet, DMD (Chris); 1 great grandchild on the way; and nieces and nephews.

Marian is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 49 years, James, who passed away in 2001; and brother’s, Marvon Barton and Arthur “Tom” Barton.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at Blue Grass Church, Chapel Campus, 14240 Petersburg Road, Evansville, with Pastor Doug Heiman officiating. Burial will be in McCutchanville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at Blue Grass Church, Chapel Campus.
