Marilyn (Moye) Smock

Marilyn (Moye) Smock, age 66, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 10:42 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2020, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family, after a 12-year battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). 

Marilyn was born February 23, 1954, in Evansville, IN, to Chesley and Mary Ann (Martin) Moye. She was a 1972 graduate of Bosse High School and a member of Forest Hills Wesleyan Church.

Anyone that knew Marilyn knew that she was not afraid to speak her mind and give her opinion on whatever the topic, especially on Facebook in recent years. She was an avid bingo player, always trying to find which Catholic church had the upcoming event, dabbing cards 12 at a time. Marilyn was often found shopping for deals at rummage sales early on Saturday mornings where she would often find $0.25 romance novels.  Marilyn spent many years crocheting afghans and if you had a birthday, baby shower, wedding, etc. you would be sure to be gifted one. She also liked to house shop, wanting to find the next move, but always finding a flaw that wouldn’t quite work. Marilyn was a devoted housewife during the formative years of raising her children and then after they were all leaving the nest she began working as a cafeteria worker for EVSC, for about 5 years.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Steven A. Smock, wed on June 30th, 1972; her son Steven R. Smock and wife Carla (Choate) Smock of Lubbock, TX; her daughter Samantha L. (Smock) Bell and husband Jonathan Bell of Evansville, IN; her son Adam M. Smock and wife Shenel (Wilkins) Smock of Denver, CO; her sister Jonell (Moye) Bethe; and 7 grandchildren: Evelyn (12), Isaac (10), Samuel (7), Luke (3), Ariyah (2), Peyton (1), and Hudson (1).

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Patricia (Davis) Ellis.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2020, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Ray Austin officiating. Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2020, and from 9:00 a.m. until service time, Friday, August 7, 2020, at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
