Mary Elizabeth (Phillips) Daum

Mary Elizabeth Daum passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023. She was born to Harrell and Bess (O’Laughlin) Phillips on December 27, 1930.

She graduated from Central High School in 1949, Evansville College in 1953 where she was a charter member of Phi Mu Fraternity.

Mary married Charles A. Daum in 1953. Charles and Mary were married 65 years before his passing in February 2019.

She began her teaching career with the Evansville School Corporation but also taught in Germany while Charles was stationed there with the Army. Mary retired from teaching in 1985 after teaching many years as a Kindergarten Teacher at Oak Hill Elementary.

Mary was a member of Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ where she participated in The Women’s Fellowship.

She loved to fish at their cabin on a small lake near Winslow, IN and in Sarasota, FL. She and Charles spent many winters in Sarasota where she fished and enjoyed the pool and warm weather. Many family vacations were spent in Sarasota with children and grandchildren when they were younger.

Mary considered her family to be her greatest blessing and was so proud of all of them!

Mary is survived by her daughters, Laura Daum Conkright (David) of Owensboro, KY and Jennifer Daum Bode (Jerry) of Louisville, KY; her son, Brian Daum (Michele) of Newburgh, IN; grandchildren, Joshua Daum (Amanda), Chris Conkright, Courtney Daum Kappler (Ryan), Lindsey Conley (Patrick), Alexis Gibson (Hunter), and Jonathan Bode; and great-grandchildren, Reagan, Brady, James, and Jackson.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. CST, Monday, April 24, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Lynn Marino and Reverend Dr. Thom Webster officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. CST, Sunday, April 23, 2023, and from 9:00 a.m. until service time CST, Monday, April 24, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
