Mary Davis Obituary

Mary Lou Davis, age 93, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on April 21, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital.

Mary Lou was born on March 30, 1933, in Evansville, Indiana, to Michael R. and Mary Louise (Lamey) Ubelhor. She graduated from Memorial High School. Throughout her life, Mary Lou held several roles; a dental assistant, working for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, and later at Donut Bank. She enjoyed walking, bicycling, and working out. Additionally, she volunteered at St. John’s Home for the Aged, St. Ben’s Catholic Church and Bethel Manor.

She was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Mary Lou had a deep love for music, especially gospel, country, and bluegrass, and was known for playing the upright bass in church and various other venues. She and her second husband, Shelby, and musical friends created the New Hoosier Grass Band. Her father, Michael Ubelhor, played the fiddle, and Shelby played the guitar, dobro, and mandolin. Later, she continued playing the bass as part of the Hoosier Harpers, and performed in the Mary Lou musical duet. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling in the Wednesday league at Franklin Lanes. Above all, Mary Lou cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. She loved, prayed for, cared for, and extended grace to everyone she met. She was so loved by all who knew her, they referred to her as the sweetest, smiling, most caring, loving lady; a saint and little Mother Theresa.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughters, Brenda Hill (Ryan), Sharon Calhoun, Martha Goldbach, and Angela Hall (Bob); her sons, Dan Goldbach (Kathy) and Scott Davis (Tamela); her sister, Eileen Goldbach; her brother, Charlie Ubelhor; sister-in-law, Shirley Ubelhor; her grandchildren, Kristy McDowell, Joseph Hill, Daniel, Michael, and Melissa Calhoun, Nathanael Goldbach, Zachary Hall, Jessica Eaton, Josiah Hall, Jonathan Hall, Stacy Lawrence, Derek Davis, Christopher Davis, and Seth Davis; along with several great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Morris Goldbach, and her husband, Shelby G. Davis; her brothers, Bernard and Ray Ubelhor; her brother in law, Paul Goldbach; and sisters in law, Thelma Ubelhor and Maxine Ubelhor.
