Mary Jo Scott, age 94, of Newburgh, IN, passed away at 12:42 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Hamilton Pointe.
Mary Jo was born November 5, 1928, in Evansville, IN, to Walter G. Wilkie and Mildred L. (Harris) Wilkie. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1946. Mary Jo then graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing in 1951. She was an office nurse for John D. Wilson, M.D. for 27 years. Mary Jo was the President of Deaconess School of Nursing Alumni Association, President of American Business Women’s Association, President of Lady Elks, President of Local First District Medical Assistants Association, and President of Lady Turners. She also served as Treasurer of Indiana State Medical Assistants Association. Mary Jo was a member of Methodist Temple for over 50 years. She enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. Mary Jo loved her adorable black cocker spaniel, “Babe,” who brought her much love during their special years together.
Mary Jo is survived by her brother, W. Paul Wilkie (Kristine); aunts, Lois Kelley Gregson and Margaret Ann Hart; uncle, Gerald Harris; niece, Leah Rikkers (Ross) and their children, Charlotte, Johnathan and Harrison; nephew, Jordan Wilkie (Kelly) and their children, Sawyer, Lennon and Ramsey; niece, Amanda Moore (Joey) and their children, Evan, Brody and Cole; niece, Sheree Kistner (Mark) and their child, Collin; nephews, Richard Wilkie and Michael Wilkie; cousin, Barbara Barnett; and many other cousins.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mildred Wilkie; and brothers, W. Stephen Wilkie and Robert G. Wilkie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2023, at Methodist Temple UMC at 2109 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, IN 47714 with Pastor Randy Moore officiating and a walk-through performed by the Southern Indiana Nurse’s Guard. Entombment will be in Oak Hill Mausoleum.
Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2023, at Methodist Temple UMC.
