Mary Ann (née Strand) Hayford, age 90, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Beehive Homes in Duluth, MN.
Mary Ann was born in Hibbing, MN, on March 22, 1935, to Walter Sanford and Elvira Eva (née LaFond) Strand. She graduated from Greenway High School in 1953. Mary Ann attended Itasca Jr. College. She married the love of her life, William Ross Hayford, on August 31, 1957. She worked at Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids as a secretary in the medical records department. Mary Ann was a talented seamstress and decorator. Her senior year in high school, she won a state-wide fashion design contest sponsored by Vogue magazine and was offered a job in Chicago.
Mary Ann is survived by her brother, Maurice Strand (Joan) of Duluth, MN; nephew, Max Strand (Allie) of Minneapolis, MN; nieces, G’Ann Shannon Boese (Pete) of Mauston, WI and Ni’Cole Shannon Barker (John) of Cohasset, MN; sisters-in-law, Martha Maier (John) and Jackie Hayford; and brother-in-law, Stephen Hayford (Vicki).
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband and love of her life for 40 years, William "Bill" Ross Hayford, who passed away in 1997; brother, Rodney Strand, and sister, Michelle “Shelley” Laakso.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2025, at James Parker Cemetery in Hatfield, IN, with Father Ted Tempel officiating.
