Mary Lou Schultz Obituary

After a life well-lived, Mrs. Mary Lou Schultz went home to be with the Lord on November 9, 2024 at the age of 97.

Mary Lou was born on May 17, 1927, to Mr. and Mrs. Melburn and Stella (Kroeger) Sharpe in Vincennes, Indiana. Upon graduation from high school, Mary Lou completed beautician school in Indianapolis. During her younger years, she was an avid ballroom dancer and fascinated herself with music of the big band era. After World War II, she married her high school sweetheart, Adolph Earl Schultz, on June 15, 1946. They were blessed with their first child, David Earl, on April 6, 1948. They subsequently had a daughter, Judith Ann, on December 30, 1950, followed by the birth of William Eugene on October 21, 1952. After this, they moved to Evansville to raise their family.

Mary Lou was known for her sense of humor and her willingness to improve the lives of those around her. She was exceptionally gifted at making others laugh and served as a soothing voice when her loved ones needed it.

Mary Lou participated in many enjoyable activities. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Evansville. She excelled in crocheting, table crafts, and shopping, and was a connoisseur of women’s shoes. Additionally, she was a choco-holic and enjoyed drinking Coca-Cola. Mary Lou was a champion of crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling to Florida to her condominium watching boats on the Intracoastal. Mary Lou’s favorite hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Rock of Ages,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Ave Maria.” Her favorite passage of scripture was John 3:16. She particularly loved her children, adored her grandchildren, and relished her great-grandchildren of whom there were many. Her family was perhaps the most important element of her life, as she tried to attend many of their functions and recognitions. She and her husband were owners of Hazelton Industries, Schultz Oil, and Princeton Drilling.

Mary Lou Schultz is survived by her daughter, Judy Crooks and husband Steve; son, Dr. William Schultz and wife Roxanne; and daughter-in-law, Gayle Schultz. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dr. David Earl Schultz II, M.D. (Kendra), Dr. Laura Schultz-Hume (Rev. Dr. J.R. Hume), Sara Sabo (Bryan), Scott Crooks, Sean Crooks (Misty), Stacy Pillow (Matt), Ryan Schultz (Dawn), Jarod Schultz (Tara), and Andrew Schultz (Lacey). Her great-grandchildren include David Earl Schultz III (Chloe), Jonathan Schultz, Lucienne Schultz, Claralene Schultz, Jonas Schultz, Rachel Stiles (Aidan), Joseph Hume, Elizabeth Hume, Isaac Killebrew, Isaiah Killebrew, Lily Sabo, Landon Crooks, Addilyn Crooks, Lydia Crooks, Emily Schultz, Cameron Schultz, Nora Schultz, Lainey Schultz, Ella Schultz, Sofia Krehmeyer, and Ledger and Booker Knott.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Adolph Earl Schultz; her son, David Earl Schultz Sr.; her great-grandson, Austin Kunze; and her sister, Mrs. Camilla Dick.
