Mary and Bernard "Bernie" Anderson Obituary

Mary J. (Ellis) Anderson, 89, of Columbus, OH, passed away January 29, 2023. She was born February 27, 1933, in Evansville, IN, to the late William and Eula Ellis. Mary graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and worked as a school nurse in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation as well as a postpartum nurse at Welborn Baptist Hospital. Mary devoted decades of her life to helping others with their life journey. She dearly loved her family, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren – always showing pictures of them to everyone she met.

Bernard G. “Bernie” Anderson, 86, of Evansville, IN, passed away September 20, 2011, at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center. He was born November 21, 1924, to the late George V. and Elsie L. Anderson in Enfield, England. He came to the United States of America in 1927. Bernie was a graduate of Stamford High School in Stamford, CT and Yale University in New Haven, CT, where he majored in Electrical Engineering. He worked for General Dynamics in San Diego, CA, as the Chief Engineer in the electronics division. He retired from Citizens National Bank in Evansville. Bernie enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served during World War II. He also served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a life member of VFW Post 1114. His hobbies included golf and duplicate bridge.

Mary and Bernie are survived by their children, Paul Jeffrey Hardesty (Kathy), Pam Mahan (Steve), and Susan Kasey (Jay), grandchildren Michael Hardesty (Anna), Sarah Greif (Tom), Daniel Kasey, John Kasey (Sarah), Anne Bennett (Bradyn), and Katie Mahan, and six great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her brother, Bill Ellis (Shirley); brother-in-law, James Quinn; and one nephew and several nieces. Bernie is also survived by his brother, David A. Anderson.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 29 years, Bernie Anderson; daughter, Ellen Hardesty, who passed away in 2022; and twin sister, Patricia Quinn, who passed away in 2019. Bernie is preceded in death by his parents. His sister, Doreen Woundy, passed away in 2017.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Memorial Park Mausoleum, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville, IN, with Pastor Kris Holzmeyer officiating.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mary and Bernie’s neighbors, Tonya Wiser, Stacy Kloeck and Gerry and Karen Moore for their love and kindness throughout the years.
