Matthew Runion Obituary

Matt Runion of Enumclaw, WA, passed away at the age of 45 on November 6, 2024, at home in the presence of loved ones and his two devoted dogs. Matt’s passing will leave a huge void in the lives of those who loved and admired him.

Matt was born on November 25, 1978, in Crawfordsville, IN, and grew up in Terre Haute, IN. Matt graduated with the class of ’97 from Terre Haute South High School and went on to gain a Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University and a Master’s Degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Matt and his wife, Kim, married on July 10, 2004, and lived in Amelia, OH, before moving to Washington State in 2009 when he accepted a position with the Boeing Company. During his 15-year tenure, he achieved the title of Associate Technical Fellow – Maintenance Engineering Systems.

While living in Ohio, Matt became a Freemason. He petitioned the Amelia Lodge 590 where he became a Master Mason in June 2007. After moving to Washington, he joined Crescent Star 109 in Enumclaw where he served as Worshipful Master from 2014-2016. Matt loved being a Mason and everything it stood for. He furthered his Masonic journey by becoming a 32nd Scottish Rite, a Past High Priest in Royal Arch, a member of York Rite Council, a member of Tahoma York Rite College, and a Templar Knight. Matt was also President of the Sons of Hiram Masonic Riding Club with whom he spent hundreds of hours and miles riding the beautiful backroads of Washington. Matt was VERY proud to be a Mason and what it meant to be one. He was fiercely devoted to his brothers in Masonry and loved them all deeply.

Matt was a model human being and husband: someone you could always count on, no matter what. He was always in a good mood, always happy, loved laughing and being silly. He enjoyed hiking, taking vacations across the US, and listening to the Dave Matthews Band. Every Labor Day weekend, you would find them at The Gorge, catching up with friends they had met at previous concerts. On weekends, you would find them somewhere in downtown Enumclaw enjoying drinks with close friends.

Matt is survived by his wife, Kim; his son, Dakota of Oakhurst, CA; his mother, Emily of Terre Haute, IN; his brother, Michael and his two children, Isabel and Oliver of Evansville, IN.

His father, Kevin Runion, of Terre Haute, IN, joined Matthew on December 21, 2024.

Matt’s life was cut way too short and there will be a certain quiet in our lives now. Matt is forever loved and will be forever missed…deeply missed.

“I could never love again, so much as I love you.” -The Dave Matthews Band
